The provincial government of Iloilo is the first in Western Visayas to conduct an Entrepreneurial Leadership Orientation for local government units.
The LEDIP Center Iloilo Province partnered with the Local Government Academy and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the conduct of the activity on August 14-15, 2023 at the Casa Real de Iloilo.
The first day was dedicated to local chief executives in Iloilo while the second day will be attended by Local Economic Development and Investments Promotion Officers.
Local Government Consultant Dr. Aser B. Javier shared his insights on entrepreneurial leadership and strategies for local economic development.
DILG VI Regional Director Engr. Juan Jovian Ingeniero underscored the importance of the entrepreneurial mindset of local leaders in improving the quality of life of the citizens.
LEDIP Center officer-in-charge Aulynn B. Yue Sin said the Iloilo provincial government recognizes the importance of local economic development as a strategy to stimulate investments that will promote sustained high growth in a local community that is aligned with its social justice agenda.
“Local chief executives and other local leaders are seen as the catalyst for economic development, and local government units that practice entrepreneurial leadership do not stand alone as providing institutions; they work together with local business and civil society groups to leverage the locality’s competitive advantage and opportunities for sustainable economic growth,” Yue Sin said.
“The conduct of the entrepreneurial leadership orientation for LGUs is one of the immediate and important actions to champion LED in the locality towards maximizing agricultural products and create a value chain for agricultural products to generate employment and investment for a robust, globally competitive and resilient province of Iloilo,” she added.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. also presented his MoRProGRes Iloilo agenda which is a whole of province approach to development and progress.
The Defensor administration will focus on generating employment and business for the province’s agricultural-tourism industry, developing growth areas, and creating a strong middle class who will then become the customers of the service industry and commercial establishments.
