OIC Governor / Provincial Administrator Raul Banias presided over the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Meeting held at the Casa Real Social Hall this afternoon.
This is the first PDRRMC Meeting with the new PDRRMO head Retired PCol. Cornelio Salinas.
Among the topics discussed in the meeting is the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon in the country and its effects in Iloilo province and Western Visayas region.
In a briefing, DOST-PAG-ASA Iloilo weather specialist Ferdinand Rubin disclosed that the El Niño phenomenon is expected to cause below-normal rainfall resulting in dry spells in Iloilo province from January to April 2024.
PDRRMC has laid out contingency measures and plans to counter the ill effects of El Niño on agriculture and the environment.
