Twenty-six municipalities received financial aid from the Iloilo provincial government for the purchase of equipment to upgrade their disaster risk response and management efforts.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the distribution of checks totalling P46 million today at the Casa Real de Iloilo. He was assisted by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Cornelio Salinas and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
The aid was received by the municipal mayors, municipal disaster risk reduction officers, and municipal treasurers.
The event was also marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreements signifying the formalization of partnerships and commitment towards the safety and resilience of our communities.
Salinas said the provincial government is committed to reinforcing the capabilities of local government units.
“It reflects our shared dedication to fostering resilience and preparedness in the face of potential challenges that may arise within our communities,” he said.
Governor Defensor said the assistance aims to fill the gap in both the systems and assets of municipalities in terms of disaster risk reduction and management.
“The assets of one are the assets of everyone,” Defensor said.
The governor clarified that the assistance comes in varied amounts and depends upon the request of municipalities.
