“Excited na gid ang mga kabataan nga magsaylo sa ila bag-o nga classroom.”
Principal I Theresa Atanoso of Dugman Elementary School in the municipality of San Dionisio expressed her gratitude to the Iloilo provincial government for the construction of a 1-storey 3-classroom building in their school.
From makeshift and dilapidated rooms, the elementary learners can now enjoy standard and quality classrooms following the completion of the project.
The building was turned over to the school by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. during the inauguration ceremony on March 8, 2024. The governor was joined by Mayor Darwin Bajada, Atanoso, Executive Assistant to Governor Niel Tupas III, and Barangay Captain Redjie Navarro.
Atanoso said that before the construction of the new building, the 147 pupils of the school were currently making use of makeshift and poor state schoolrooms due to the lack of funds to build standard classrooms.
The new building will now provide the best possible environment for learners to grow and enjoy their right to a quality education.
“This is not just a room. This space is for learning, growth, and transformation. It is here where minds will be nurtured, ideas will be born, and the future will be shaped,” the principal said.
“We are truly grateful to the provincial government for allocating a budget for the construction of this 3-classroom building,” she added.
The P3.9 million classroom project was funded under the Provincial School Board – Special Education Fund.
The provincial government has also allotted an additional P5 million for the repair and renovation of the school’s dilapidated classrooms.
Governor Defensor said the provincial government is now focusing on the construction of school buildings to address the problem of classroom shortage in the entire province.
“Ang classrom amo ni ang aton paborito nga project. Wala na sang may mas importante pa sa pag alam sang aton mga kabataan,” Defensor said. (Capitol News)
