The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) passed two resolutions creating teams to implement mitigation strategies and enhance the province’s damage assessment capabilities amidst the El Niño phenomenon.
The first resolution endorses the creation of the Provincial El Niño Task Force to carry out mitigation efforts and implement action plans for their respective sectors.
This is also in response to NDRRMC Memorandum Circular No. 05 series 2023 on the creation of the El Niño Team.
The task force will be comprised of five key sectors – food security, water security, energy security, health security, and public safety. The five sectors also presented their action plans to mitigate the impacts of El Niño.
Another is a resolution organizing the Provincial Rapid/Post Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Team (R/PDANA) to enhance the province’s capacity to assess and respond to the impacts of disasters in a systematic manner.
The team will be headed by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The members are the Provincial Agriculture Office, Provincial Engineering Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Health Office, Hospital Management Office, Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office, Provincial Treasurer’s Office, and any PDRRMC member or accredited civil society organization.
