Capitol Extends P8 Million Aid To Maasin For Aliwan Fiesta

The Iloilo Provincial Government has extended a P8 million financial assistance to the Tultugan Festival of the municipality of Maasin which will represent the Province of Iloilo in the 2024 Aliwan Fiesta on June 27-29, 2024 at the Aliw Theater, Pasay, Metro Manila.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said the provincial government is now investing in history, heritage, culture, and tourism to promote the province of Iloilo further. The governor will travel to Manila to give his support to Maasin.

“We want also to give history, heritage, culture, and the arts a fair share of the budget to promote the province and the city of Iloilo,” he said.

The Tultugan Festival showcases the rich bamboo industry of the municipality of Maasin. The municipality is dubbed as the center of bamboo in Panay and has been a major supplier of the products locally and internationally.

The tribe’s performance features the rhythmic melodies of “tultugan”, a native bamboo percussion instrument.

Governor Defensor added that participation in the Tultugan Festival “has changed the standards” of festival performances.

To recall, Maasin won the championship crown during the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan Festival of Festivals last January 27, 2024. The Iloilo Provincial Government spearheaded the event and was one of the highlights of the 2024 Dinagyang Festival.
