The Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Department of Energy Visayas Field Office successfully conducted a total of four Energy 101 lectures at the Casa Real de Iloilo Grand Social Hall from April to July 2024.
The activity was in partnership with the USAID Energy Secure Philippines (ESP)- Energy Knowledge Empowerment in Western Visayas (EKEWV) through a grant being implemented by the Central Philippine University (CPU).
This activity was made possible through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Desk, PGENRO chief and EECO Atty. Cesar Emmanuelle P. Buyco Jr., Fourth District Board Member and Energy Champion Rolando Distura, the CPU team headed by Engr. Jeriel Militar, and DOE-VFO headed by Director Renante Sevilla.
The Energy 101-1 featured the Power Infrastructure of Panay and its Challenges last April 22, 2024. This included discussing basic electrical units, power and energy, the complex power triangle, the “EPIRA” Law, the Philippine grid and distribution code, and the Western Visayas power infrastructure.
The Energy 101-2 featured EE Strategies and Practices Including GEMP (Part 1- Electricity) last May 20, 2024. It covered the discussion on energy efficiency and conservation: definition and importance, energy efficiency and conservation practices, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (RA 11285), demand side management program, guidelines on energy conserving design of buildings, the Philippine energy labelling program, and the government energy management program (GEMP).
The Energy 101-3 featured Fuel Efficiency and Electric Vehicles as EE&C Initiatives for GEMP last June 27, 2024, with discussions on EVIDA and CREVI, emerging technologies on EVs and alternative fuels, and fuel conservation tips.
The Energy 101-4 featured Renewable Energy as a Strategy for Energy Conservation and GEMP Compliance last July 15, 2024. This included the discussion on renewable energy, the Renewable Energy Act and its mechanisms, Renewable Energy 101, the EVOSS Act, renewable energy potentials, existing and ongoing renewable energy projects in the region, and the challenges of renewable energy project implementation.
A total of 27 attendees received a certificate of completion for attending the four sessions amounting to 16 hours of training, 34 received a certificate of completion for attending three sessions, and 80 will be receiving a certificate of attendance for attending one or two sessions.
EECOs and EEC focal persons from the municipalities and component city, under the province of Iloilo as well as representatives from the various Capitol offices including its hospitals, and Iloilo City LGU have shown their support throughout the series. (EEC Team)
