Malnutrition Impacts Academic Performance

‘Malnutrition Impacts Academic Performance’

Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias underscored that the problem of nutrition affects the academic performance of learners, highlighting the urgent need to address malnutrition to ensure the cognitive development of Ilonggos.

During the 2nd Barangay Nutrition Scholar Convention, Banias emphasized that not only does malnutrition impair health but the student’s nutritional status also affects his or her ability to learn and perform in school.

“Isa sa ginaaway naton is not only malnutrition but our learning poverty…We can never make the province and the country poverty-free if our children are also poor in learning,” he said.

Banias noted that aside from reducing the prevalence of malnutrition, the provincial government under Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. has ongoing efforts to address the reading proficiency gap of learners.

Under Defensor’s education reform program Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins), the provincial government is implementing the BES BASA to solve the reading problem among elementary learners.

Meanwhile, the provincial administrator thanked the BNS for contributing to achieving a healthier Iloilo.

“Our fight to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition will be ineffective without your support. Palakpakan naton ang mga baganihan sa aton away sa malnutrition,” Banias enthused.

Banias further appealed to the barangay volunteer workers to participate in a cleanup drive to prevent the spread of the dengue disease. (Capitol News)
