To keep tabs on the recent developments and the need for heightened preparedness, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened a special meeting on August 15, 2024, at the Casa Real de Iloilo.
During the meeting, the council passed a resolution recommending the declaration of the Province of Iloilo under a state of calamity due to the rise in dengue cases.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, who presided at the meeting said there is a need to address the dengue outbreak with urgency to avoid its spread and prevent additional fatalities.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. later joined the meeting as he still presided over the Provincial Development Council ExeCom meeting.
The meeting is a critical step towards strengthening the province’s disaster resilience and response strategies.
