Governor Defensor To Endorse TESDA Sa Barangay For Local Workforce Development

Top officials from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA Region VI) recently met with Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. to present the TESDA Sa Barangay program and seek his support for its implementation across local government units (LGUs) in the province.

The TESDA sa Barangay program is designed to bring technical education and skills development directly to barangays, aiming to improve employability and livelihood opportunities, especially in remote and underserved areas.

TESDA Regional Director Ramon Evan Ruiz highlighted that this initiative is part of the agency’s effort to devolve its programs, empowering LGU-based trainers to run their own Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs with National Certification Levels I and II (NC1 and NC2).

Iloilo Provincial Director Esther Babalo emphasized that the program will enable LGUs to take charge of planning their workforce development strategies, ensuring they are tailored to local needs.

Governor Defensor expressed his full support for the initiative and has already pushed for a meeting with the mayors to discuss the program.

He also plans to institutionalize TESDA’s involvement in the Provincial School Board and integrate the agency into the province’s Career Guidance Program and Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins).
