IPG Advances Renewable Energy With Phase 2 Of Solar PV Installation At Aleosan District Hospital

The Iloilo Provincial Government (IPG) continues to lead efforts in mainstreaming renewable energy (RE) and promoting energy efficiency and conservation (EEC) in Western Visayas.

As part of this ongoing initiative, the IPG turned over Phase 2 of the rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation with streetlights at the Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian.

This installation is funded by the ER 1-94 provision, which grants benefits to host communities in the form of a Development and Livelihood Fund (DLF) and a Reforestation, Watershed Management, Health, and Environment Enhancement Fund (RWMHEEF).

The turnover ceremony today was attended by Department of Energy (DOE) Visayas Field Office Energy Resource Development and Utilization Division Chief Lourdes Arciaga, Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, who represented Governor Arthur Defensor, 4th District Board Member Rolando Distura, Alimodian Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche Jr., Panay Energy Development Corporation First Vice President for Panay Site Operations Antonio Cabalhug, Jr., and several department heads of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

The 30-kilowatt rooftop solar PV installation with solar-powered streetlights at Aleosan District Hospital is projected to enhance the hospital’s safety and security by providing reliable, eco-friendly lighting in its premises and significantly reduce the hospital’s energy consumption, a feat already achieved with the Phase 1 installation earlier this year.

In March 2024, the provincial government inaugurated Phase 1 of the solar project at the same hospital, which has since resulted in notable energy savings.

The first phase covered the hospital’s COVID ward, cutting the hospital’s monthly electricity expenses by approximately P80,000.

These renewable energy efforts showcase Iloilo’s forward-thinking approach to energy management.

With continued partnerships between the public sector and energy developers, Iloilo is set to become a model province in achieving energy efficiency and sustainability in local government operations.
