Guv Inaugurates Turnover School Projects In Cabatuan

Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. graced the inauguration and turnover of four school projects in Cabatuan, Iloilo on the morning of October 2, 2024.

He was accompanied by Cabatuan Mayor Elizalde “Boboy” Pueyo and some members of the Sangguniang Bayan in four separate events.

Two multi-purpose teen centers were inaugurated and turned over to Mateo National High School in Brgy. Manguna and Ambrosio Maido Memorial National High School in Brgy. Jelicuon Montinola.

Mateo National High School principal Rene Bastiero thanked Gov. Defensor for bringing the project to their school which could help uplift the mental health of their more than 300 students.

School officials of Ambrosio Maido Memorial National High School also expressed the same gratitude to Gov. Defensor and vowed to take care and maximize the use of the facility which they called Handuman Teen Center. They also thanked the governor for providing financial assistance for the construction of their perimeter fence.

The school-based multi-purpose teen center, which is a project under the Provincial Population Office (PPO), contains recreational facilities and learning materials and is provided with trained peer helpers who could assist their fellow students having personal or school-related problems.

PPO chief Atty. Ruel Von Superio said that there are already 102 multi-purpose teen centers in the province and the program continues with the establishment of “stand-alone teen” centers with bigger funding.

Gov. Defensor also turned over two classrooms at Moises Cuello Elementary School in Brgy. Bulay and three classrooms at Maraguit Elementary School in Barangay Leong.

“Building classrooms is my favorite project,” says Defensor who has allotted remarkable funding for the classroom projects under his Bulig sa Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) program.

He stressed that more classrooms will be built under the BES Probins program with a focus on smaller schools situated in far-flung areas.

“This is our way of helping the Department of Education address the problem of lack of classroom buildings,” Defensor said.

Mayor Pueyo also thanked Defensor for pouring a lot of projects into their municipality.

“Indeed, Gov. Defensor loves the Cabatuanons. Wala kita sang ginpangayo sa iya (Gov. Defensor) nga wala nya ginhatag. Salamat gid Gob,” said Pueyo.

Also present in the four separate events were barangay officials, school teachers and students.
