WWF-Philippines To Present Findings On Water Supply And Demand In Tigum-Aganan-Jaro River Watershed

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, in partnership with the Environmental Hydrology Laboratory of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, is set to present the results of its Water Supply and Demand Assessment in the Tigum-Aganan Watershed (TAW) on October 10-11, 2024 to Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO-LGU Iloilo IPG).

The assessment, conducted in September 2023, comes as part of a broader conservation effort aimed at enhancing the sustainability of Iloilo’s water resources.

In a letter addressed to Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., WWF-Philippines requested an audience to present the final assessment results, highlighting the importance of involving local government units (LGUs), stakeholders, and water resource users in discussions that would inform strategic actions toward improving water security in the region.

WWF Daloy Projects Manager Lisa G. Digidigan said the discussions will focus on water supply dynamics, demand analysis, and recommendations to ensure a resilient water future for Iloilo.

The TAW, which supplies water to several municipalities, is a vital watershed that requires careful monitoring and management.

The initiative is supported by experts from UP-Diliman and the Kahublagan Sang Panimalay Foundation.

WWF-Philippines has a long-standing commitment to the conservation of natural resources in the Philippines.
