The participants of the Eco-Cultural Training for Local Activation (ECTLA) held in Gangwon State, South Korea presented to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias their action plan dubbed “MoRProGRes ILOLO, More in Carles” which aims to boost the tourism potential of Northern Iloilo islands, particularly in Gigantes Island and Sicogon.
The Iloilo team also presented their proposed tourism programs, projects, and activities to the Local Finance Committee for possible funding of the Iloilo provincial government.
Banias wants the action plan to be translated into tangible projects which would benefit the local community and tourism stakeholders.
Some of the proposed projects include provision of clean and potable water, toilets, and other shared community facilities.
The “MoRProGRes ILOLO, More in Carles” action plans aims to establish an inclusive and sustainable eco-cultural tourism in the islands of Carles – generating income and investment while protecting the natural resources, preserving the local culture and heritage and empowering local communities.
It is an offshoot of the “Turista sa Barangay for MoRProGRes” program of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. which aims to develop the barangay as a community venue for tourism events and activities and as a point of care for tourists.
Specifically, the plan targets to increase the islands’ tourist arrivals by 30 percent and provide income to the local community.
