Three students from Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School, Iloilo, dubbed the Aedes Avengers, paid a courtesy visit to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol today after winning the Philippine Finals of The Master Dengue Slayer Challenge.
Monica Gerona, Roy Benedict Salanatin, and Res John Senibalo, mentored by Ms. Maria Bella Vijar, stood out for their creativity and commitment to public health, beating top teams nationwide. They will represent the Philippines in the Asia Pacific Grand Finals on June 15–18 in Quezon City.
The competition, organized by the Asia Dengue Voice and Action Group (ADVA) and Junior Achievement Asia Pacific, empowers youth from five Southeast Asian countries to develop science-driven solutions against dengue.
As dengue season approaches, the Aedes Avengers’ victory reflects the ingenuity and civic spirit of Ilonggo youth, highlighting Iloilo’s role in advancing community-based health innovation.
