The Iloilo provincial government led by the Provincial Nutrition Council celebrated the 51st Nutrition Month on July 7, 2025 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, emphasizing the importance of ensuring equal access to nutritious food for all Filipinos.
The celebration has an overarching theme, “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!” and a subtheme, “Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon stressed that under the Iloilo provincial government, “no child should go hungry.”
“Governor Toto Defensor understands that nutrition is foundational to development. That if we are to build a strong, productive, and resilient Iloilo, we must begin with ensuring that every child is nourished – body, mind, and spirit,” Quiñon said.
Vice Governor Nathalie Ann Debuque highlighted the importance of nutrition for well-being, the economy, and in achieving a resilient community. “A well-fed and nourished community is a resilient community,” Debuque said.
Debuque administered the oath-taking of the new set of officers of the Federation of Provincial Nutrition Volunteers of Iloilo, Inc.
The event also gathered farmers from different municipalities to sell and promote their local products.
Acting Provincial Government Assistant Department Head Hector Mallo said the Provincial Agriculture Office is committed to promoting sustainable food systems, agricultural innovation, and nutrition-focused programs aligned with Governor Defensor Jr.’s social justice agenda.
“This initiative aligns with the nutrition month’s objective, emphasizing the importance of supporting local farmers. By purchasing locally grown and indigenous produce, we can stimulate our local economy and promote food security,” Mallo said.
The Iloilo provincial government remains steadfast in its mission to promote sustainable and inclusive nutrition programs.
