Technical Working Group for the implementation of Purok Resilience Program, convened a meeting with key shelter agencies and partners to hear recommendations on a just and humane repayment scheme for the beneficiaries of the Purok Resilience Program, piloted in Barangay Nangka, Batad, Iloilo.
Representatives from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), and the Homeless People’s Federation Philippines, Inc. (HPFPI) presented proposed approaches to ensure that the repayment mechanism remains fair, sustainable, and reflective of the beneficiaries’ economic capacities.
Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. emphasized that the Provincial Government should exercise responsible and compassionate governance to ensure that the housing initiative does not become a dole-out, but a partnership that promotes accountability, empowerment, and shared ownership among the beneficiaries.
The meeting also highlighted DHSUD’s ongoing assistance to the Provincial Government in the registration of beneficiaries as a Homeowners’ Association (HOA), a key step toward enabling the community to collectively manage and sustain the housing project.
