In observance of Global Handwashing Day, the San Joaquin Mother and Child Hospital conducted a health awareness activity with the theme “It Might Be Gloves, It’s Always Hand Hygiene.”
The event highlighted the importance of proper hand hygiene and the critical role it plays in infection prevention and control.
Activities included a lecture on hand hygiene and the administration of the Hepatitis B vaccine to frontline healthcare workers, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to the safety and well-being of both its staff and patients.
During his message, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Chairman Dr. Fillaro emphasized that healthcare workers are among those at high risk of occupational exposure to infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B due to contact with blood and bodily fluids.
“With vaccination, we provide two-way protection to safeguarding ourselves as healthcare providers and ensuring the safety of our patients,” Dr. Fillaro said.
The celebration served as a reminder that consistent handwashing remains the most effective and simplest measure to prevent the spread of infections within healthcare settings.
SJMCH’s initiative aligns with the global effort to promote hygiene and strengthen infection prevention practices across health institutions.
