Municipal officials of Oton led by Mayor Sofronio Fusin received a check amounting to Php 1,131,648.00 for the improvement/rehabilitation of the Batiano River at the Office of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. this morning.
To recall, Gov. Defensor launched last year the Balik-Batiano River Development Project which aims to restore the river’s cultural and historical importance, strengthen biodiversity and climate resilience, involve local communities and youth in environmental stewardship, and promote sustainable livelihoods and ecotourism to boost the local economy while protecting the environment.
It was unveiled during the massive cleanup drive in Oton on August 30, 2025 which was conducted in partnership with RMN DYRI and other stakeholders.
Batiano River passes through seven barangays of Oton, namely, Tagbac Sur, Buray, Poblacion West, Poblacion North, San Antonio, San Nicolas, and Alegre.
Provincial Population Office chief Atty. Ruel Von Superio, together with the staff of the Governor’s Office, released the check on behalf of Gov. Defensor.
