Women As Permanent Partner In Clean-Up Drive

The Iloilo provincial government celebrated International Women’s Day through a women-led cleanup drive all over the province on March 8, 2024.

The activity was aimed at advocating for climate change resiliency and water awareness as the province currently experiences dry spells due to El Niño.

The cleanup was spearheaded by the Gender and Development Council and was participated by the Capitol employees, Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Concepcion Chapter, employees of Concepcion LGU, and national government agencies, among others.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the caravan from the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to the municipality of Concepcion. The participants also conducted a cleanup drive along the coastal areas of Concepcion.

In his message during the program in front of the municipal hall, the governor said he wants to institutionalize women as partners of the provincial government in its cleanup drive.

“We want women to have a bigger role in environmental cleanup. We will institutionalize this and make our women a permanent partner in taking care of our natural environment,” Defensor said.
