Dilapidated rooms. Makeshift classrooms. Inadequate infrastructures. These problems have been confronting our public elementary schools not only in the province of Iloilo but the entire country.
These problems are also the ones that Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. wants to address under his Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) Program. Through the Provincial School Board – Special Education Fund, the provincial government has been prioritizing the construction of classroom buildings in response to the problem of classroom shortage in public schools.
Today, April 4, 2024, Governor Defensor led the turning over of classroom buildings in two barangay schools in Barotac Viejo. California Primary School is a recipient of a three-classroom building worth P3.8 million. The school is now in the process of converting into an elementary school. A four-classroom building amounting to P5.1 million was constructed by the provincial government at La Fortuna Elementary School.
The governor was joined by Mayor Nielo Tupas, former Barotac Viejo mayor and now Executive Assistant to Governor Niel Tupas III, Eglinda Dasilao from the Office of Cong. Raul Tupas, Executive Assistant to the Governor Aries Tedoco, California Primary School Teacher-in-Charge Denny Grace Bañes, Barangay California Punong Barangay Kelly Bañes, La Fortuna Elementary School Principal I Agnes Jovacon, La Fortuna Barangay Captain Levy Alasian, former Barotac Viejo mayor Myrna Tupas, and the barangay officials, among others, during the inauguration ceremonies.
Bañes thanked Defensor for the project which would provide a conducive learning environment for the students of California Primary School.
“We are lucky enough to have this,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jovacon could not contain her emotions as she expressed her gratitude to the provincial government for the additional school infrastructure.
“Thank you very much Gov kay gintagaan mo kami sang opportunity nga makabaton sang grasya. Daw mahibi ako sang kalipay subong,” she said.
Governor Defensor said the provincial government is now aggressive in meeting the infrastructure needs of public schools, particularly on the lack of standard classrooms.
“We want to be aggressive in the development of our schools. Ubuson naton ang pwersa sang Special Education Fund kag tinguhaon naton nga lagson ang classroom shortage,” the governor said. (Capitol News)
