Iloilo Readies For La Niña

The Iloilo Provincial Government is preparing for the onset of the rainy season while staying on course in mitigating the impacts of El Niño.

Preparations for La Niña were discussed during the two-day Provincial Civil Defense Cluster Meeting on April 15-16, 2024 at the Governor’s Board Room.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. said he will call for a meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) next week to discuss the measures to cushion the effects of La Niña.

“Balikan naton ang aton nga mga alert system. We will also review our disaster map kun diin pirmi gaagi ang baha kag ang aton preparedness sa dira nga area together with our mayors,” Governor Defensor said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has declared a 55 per cent chance of La Nina developing in the next six months.

The Province of Iloilo will be experiencing near-normal rainfall in May and in June. (Capitol News)
