Iloilo Eyed For Senior Citizen Community Care Center

National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Commissioner Dr. Mary Jean Loreche met with Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. and solicited support for the proposed Senior Citizen Community Care Center (SC3C).

Before their meeting, Dr. Loreche and her team presented the plans to establish SC3C to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by its chief Sarah Barayuga and other department officers.

Iloilo is seen to be a pilot area for SC3C.

During the presentation, Dr. Loreche highlighted that the community-based initiatives through SC3C encompass various services, including medical and palliative care, caregiver respite, livelihood training, socialization activities, and disaster preparedness.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration among partner agencies to ensure the realization and sustainability of this endeavour, stressing the need for support, resource-sharing, and program complementation.

The Philippines has about 9.22 million senior citizens according to a 2020 Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) survey.
