“Stop the Spread, Go sa 4S Kontra Dengue”

As part of the Dengue Awareness Month and the ASEAN Dengue Day Celebration 2024 themed “Stop the Spread, Go sa 4S Kontra Dengue,” the Iloilo Provincial Government through the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO) spearheaded today a conference on dengue prevention and management.

PHO head Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon presented the dengue situation in the province, highlighting the need for the 4S strategies – Search and Destroy, Secure Self-protection, Support Fogging and Spraying, and Seek Early Consultation.

Dr. Tomas Saiton of the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) Dengue Task Force shared with participants from different agencies and local government units the myths and facts about the disease and how to detect and manage the symptoms.

Emphasizing the role of environmental cleanliness in the combat against dengue, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) Senior Environment Specialist Mitzi Peñaflorida also shared about the Limpyo Iloilo initiative and other various programs of the province in terms of waste management.

The activity is part of a series of initiatives by the Iloilo Provincial Government under the leadership of Gov. Arthur R. Defensor, Jr., aimed at reducing the impact of dengue and promoting public health across the municipalities of the Iloilo Province.
