Delegates from Tanauan, Batangas, led by City Mayor Nelson “Sonny” Collantes and Congresswoman Ma. Theresa Collantes visited the Iloilo Provincial Capitol for a Knowledge Sharing on Gender and Development (GAD) Mainstreaming on June 20.
Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul N. Banias welcomed over 80 participants on behalf of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. The delegation included Tanauan City legislators, department heads, and barangay officials. Dr. Banias emphasized the importance of integrating GAD into programs and projects to ensure inclusive development.
Alma Ravena, Assistant Department Head of the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) and Co-Chairperson of the Provincial GAD Committee (PGADC) recalled with the delegates the journey of Iloilo as a national GAD Learning Hub and showcased Iloilo’s exemplary GAD practices. Her presentation highlighted initiatives such as the local Women’s Month celebration, Tiendas Ilonggas, and the One Billion Rising campaign.
Additionally, Dr. Wendel T. Marcelo, Assistant Department Head of the Provincial Health Office, introduced the Healthy Hearts Program. This initiative aims to enhance cardiovascular health and reduce mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory conditions.
