Ilonggo Athletes Triumph In 13th ASEAN School Games

Ilonggo student-athletes brought home one silver and three bronze medals from the 13th ASEAN School Games (ASG) held in Da Nang, Vietnam, on June 3, 2024. Kent Paul Burdan, Franklin Catera, and John Masuhol clinched a silver and a bronze medal in the male athletics category.

Meanwhile, Trixie Nicole Taclaha and Sheine Mae Gonzales secured two bronze medals in the female category of Pencak Silat, a martial art originating from Southeast Asia.

They were part of the Philippine delegation, comprised of 15 student-athletes who departed for Vietnam on May 30 and returned on June 7.

Nicasio B. Valenzuela, the team manager of the athletics team and the Division Sports Officer of the Schools Division of Iloilo, praised the student-athletes tenacity, highlighting their determination, along with the support of their coaches and the Department of Education (DepEd), enabled them to triumph despite the challenges and rushed preparations.

Student-athletes across the ASEAN region competed in the six-day 13th ASG, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship.
