Stakeholders Present Nutrition Initiatives And Accomplishments

The Provincial Health Office led by its chief Dr. Mario Socorro Quiñon, along with representatives from partner offices and agencies, presented their nutrition initiatives and accomplishments during the press conference on July 8, 2024, at the Casa Real de Iloilo as part of the 50th Nutrition Month kickoff celebration.

Joining the panel discussion are representatives from the National Nutrition Council VI, Department of Health-Philippine Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project (DOH-PMNP), Department of Education Division of Iloilo, Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office, and Negrese Volunteers for Change, Inc. president Millie L. Kilayko.

NNC VI presented their Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program which aims to improve the quality and quantity of food and nutrient intake of its beneficiaries. Its primary targets are nutritionally vulnerable or undernourished pregnant women and children between the ages of six months and three years old.

Kilayko shared their Mingo Meals Nutrition Program, a nutritious instant complementary food made of rice, mongo, and sesame seeds for malnourished children.

DepEd Iloilo also presented its programs to ensure the health and well-being of school children.

The Provincial Agriculture Office gave an overview of the MoRProGRes Gardens which incorporates the production of high-value crops to ensure food security and help decrease poverty and hunger. The program blends gardening and landscaping for the promotion of agri-tourism in Iloilo.

Moreover, the panel discussion highlighted the importance of partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders, particularly with the local government units, to achieve a malnutrition-free province of Iloilo.
