The Iloilo Provincial Government through the Iloilo Provincial Population Office handed over cheques amounting to P5-M each to five pilot local government units to establish the Family and Youth Development Center (FYDC).
The towns of Igbaras, Sta. Barbara, Calinog, Sara, and the City of Passi are the initial beneficiaries of this infrastructure project to strengthen family and youth programs across the province.
Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. led the turnover of cheques to Igbaras Mayor Vicente E. Escorpion, Jr., Sara Mayor Jon N. Aying, Calinog Mayor Francisco L. Calvo, Sta. Barbara SB Member Niel Superficial, and Passi City PPO IV Ma. Teresa Buena.
In his acceptance speech, Igbaras Mayor Vicente E. Escorpion, Jr. expressed his gratitude for the project, emphasizing its importance to his municipality.
“It is a novel project and innovation, particularly about family and youth development. We’re so happy and privileged to be given this opportunity to work initially in collaboration and cooperation with the provincial government. It is very welcome for us in Igbaras, we need this project very much,” said Mayor Escorpion.
Governor Defensor highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to expanding the project, ensuring that every LGU in Iloilo Province eventually has its own FYDC.
This initiative aligns with the MoRProGRes development mantra of the Iloilo Provincial Government, which aims to promote sustainable growth and development through strategic infrastructure projects.
The FYDC is designed as a two-storey facility that will serve multiple purposes, including hosting Pre-Marriage Orientation and Counseling (PMOC) sessions, providing a training site for youth programs, and offering office space for Population Program Officers and their respective Barangay Service Point Officers.
Additionally, the center will house the Local Youth Development Office, the Office/Session Hall of the Sangguniang Kabataan, and the Local Youth Development Council Office, making it a vital hub for family and youth initiatives in each LGU.
