Provincial and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers gathered at Casa Real de Iloilo to discuss improvements in the province’s Early Warning Systems (EWS) and protocols.
The meeting, led by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO-Iloilo), aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness across Iloilo’s municipalities.
Key topics included the integration of DILG’s Operation Listo protocols, deploying manual and automated rain gauges, and installing water level monitoring systems.
PCol. Cornelio R. Salinas presented plans for meteorological buoys for storm surge monitoring and emphasized the importance of response clusters and alert systems.
During the open forum, LDRRMOs highlighted the need for enhanced automation, reliable power backup, and improved siren systems. Other suggestions included strategically placing water level sensors and solar-powered monitoring systems for upstream areas.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to implement the proposed upgrades and comply with reportorial requirements to ensure Iloilo’s disaster preparedness remains robust.
