Iloilo Towns Ramp Up Efforts In Stray Animal Control And Rabies Prevention

In a series of events to promote responsible pet ownership and prevent rabies spread, the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office-Iloilo (PVO) partnered with three municipalities in Iloilo and conducted key activities to address rising concerns over stray animals and rabies control.

The Municipality of Leon through its Municipal Agriculture Office spearheaded a spaying and neutering activity to tackle the increasing population of stray dogs and cats. A total of 12 dogs and cats were neutered and spayed by a skilled team of veterinarians.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Anilao bolstered its rabies prevention efforts by celebrating World Rabies Day on October 16, 2024, with a sterilization drive. Nineteen male dogs and cats were neutered during the event, contributing to the province-wide initiative to eradicate rabies.

In San Dionisio, the Municipal Health Office and Municipal Agriculture Office collaborated with barangay officials, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), and the Municipal Rabies Control Committee (MRCC) and hosted a rabies prevention and control seminar.

During the gathering, representatives from the PVO emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership and updated participants on the latest strategies to prevent and control rabies in the province.
