Papua New Guinea Learns From Iloilo’s Climate Change Adaptation, DRR Practices

Officials from the Government of Papua New Guinea and the World Bank visited Iloilo to learn of the province’s environmental management and climate change adaptation practices.

The delegation from Papua New Guinea is led by Mr. Philip Leo, Secretary, Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs; Mr. Larson Thomas, Deputy Secretary, Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs; Mr. Reichert Thanda, First Assistant Secretary, Department of National Planning and Monitoring; Ms. Linda Taman, Assistant Secretary, Department of National Planning and Monitoring; Mr. John Punde, Provincial Administrator, Chimbu Provincial Government; Mr. Allen Los, Provincial Administrator, Eastern Highlist Provincial Government; and Mr. Max Bruten, Provincial Administrator, Morobe Provincial Government.

The officials from World Bank are composed of Ms. Abidah Setyowati, Senior Social Development Specialist; Mr. Miks Muižarajs, Analytics Specialist; Ms. Josephine Jade, Social Development Specialist; and Ms. Corinne Canlas, Consultant.

The delegation paid a courtesy visit on Provincial Administrator and OIC-Governor Raul Banias prior to a technical meeting with the IPG Core Team at the Casa Real Grand Social Hall.

The IPG Core Team is composed of representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office, and Provincial Tourism Office. Also joining the meeting are the DSWD RPMO Team.

Banias shared some of Iloilo’s community driven development experience, climate change adaptation practices, and disaster risk reduction programs.

In the afternoon, they visited the Leganes Integrated Katunggan EcoPark (LIKE) at Barangay Gua-an and had a discussion on community engagement and partnership building.
