Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. gives prime importance to the young people and our family as the basic unit of the society.
As a testament of his love and passion for public service, Governor Defensor spent Valentine’s Day spearheading the groundbreaking ceremony of his brainchild – the Family and Youth Development Center which is a dedicated facility towards empowering families and the youth.
The Municipality of New Lucena is the third recipient of the P5 million Family and Youth Development Center which is being implemented through the Provincial Population Office. The other two beneficiaries are Igbaras and Santa Barbara. Joining the governor in the laying of the capsule are New Lucena Mayor Liecel Mondejar-Seville, Vice Mayor Isabelo Accolador, Provincial Population Officer Atty. Ruel Von Superio, Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig, Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque as representative of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, municipal and barangay officials, and Barangay Service Point Officers, among others.
Atty. Superio said the FYDC is a permanent and define infrastructure designed to support population programs, projects, and activities. It will also serve as an office for the Population Program Officer-designate in the municipality and the Barangay Service Point Officer. The second floor is designed for the Local Youth Development Office and Local Youth Development Council, as well as a session hall for the Sangguniang Kabataan.
In addition, it will serve as a hub for fostering harmonious family ties and strengthening community relations.
Atty. Superio said that the establishment of an FYDC would help local government units win the much-coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award.
“With this Family and Youth Development Center, indi na mabudlay sa aton mga LGUs nga mangin SGLG awardee kada tuig. Bulig ini ni Governor Defensor sa aton mga kabanwahanan, especially diri sa inyo banwa sang New Lucena agud mangin mahapos ang pag-angkon sang SGLG award,” the Provincial Population Officer said.
Governor Defensor believes that investing in our family and youth helps build a stronger nation.
The governor said that the FYDC will complement the Teen Center buildings also currently being constructed by the provincial government in secondary schools.
“Our programs in the Teen Centers will connect to this FYDC. And we will continue to build more,” Defensor said. (Capitol News)
