Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the official opening of the 4.45-kilometer Baclayan-Damires Provincial Road, a vital infrastructure set to promote economic growth and improve the daily commute of the residents of New Lucena.
The project costs P49,066,758.39 and was funded through the provincial government’s 20 percent national tax allocation for 2022 and 2023.
Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig said this road project would lead to economic development as it will facilitate the movement of goods, reduce travel time, enhance emergency response capabilities, and improve access to government services.
“Ang probinsya sang Iloilo sa idalom sang pagpamuno sang aton mapisan, maalam kag service-oriented nga gobernador nagapati nga ang maayo nga kondisyon sang dalan is crucial for economic development, social connectivity, safety, and overall quality of life especially in the rural areas,” he said.
Engineer Andig joined Governor Defensor during the inauguration ceremony on February 14, 2025. Also present in the event are New Lucena Mayor Liecel Mondejar-Seville, Vice Mayor Isabelo Accolador, Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque who represented the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, and the municipal and barangay officials.
Mayor Seville thanked Governor Defensor for the various infrastructure support given by the province to New Lucena. Seville said the newly-concreted road would help especially the farmers for a seamless transport of agricultural goods to the market.
Governor Defensor committed to provide more projects to New Lucena. He announced that the provincial government has allocated P12 million for the completion of the Jelicuon-Cagban road this year. An amount of P1.8 million was allotted for the repair of school buildings of Badiang Elementary School.
The governor thanked Mayor Seville for her support to the programs and projects of the provincial government in New Lucena.
“This inspires us to do better. Ang importante nga kada kadto naton diri, may ginadugang kita,” Defensor said.
