The Iloilo Provincial Library & Archives officially launched today its digital library and online resource portals, marking a milestone in making government publications, historical documents, and learning tools more accessible to the public.
The launch, held at the Capitol Lobby, was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by university librarians, students, and department heads of the Iloilo Provincial Government.
The event showcased the province’s commitment to embracing digital transformation in public service, particularly in the education and information sectors.
In his message, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias emphasized the significance of accessibility in today’s digital age: “You don’t have to go to the library, but you can access publications through your gadgets,” he said, underscoring the convenience that the online platform offers.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., though not physically present, was lauded for his consistent support of educational programs in the province.
“Our governor is very passionate about education. The habit and the passion for reading—we are really inculcating this to our children,” Banias added.
The digital platforms launched include:
• 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞: iloiloprovinciallibrary.com, featuring news, updates, and general library information;
• 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲: iloiloelibrary.com, offering digitized provincial government publications, Ilonggo history and culture, and other accessible materials;
• 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬: for real-time online assistance; and
• 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞: a digital library with assistive tech for users with reading barriers.
Iloilo Provincial Library and Archives chief Allana Delgado said the digital shift allows the library to expand its reach.
“The library can provide assistance even if the users don’t physically visit the library,” she shared.
Participants were encouraged to scan the QR codes provided during the event and on promotional materials to begin exploring the online platforms.
As an added treat, attendees were welcomed with free coffee, symbolizing how learning can now be enjoyed with ease, anytime, anywhere.
