The City of Passi emerged as the champion in the 2024 Governor’s Award for Best PESO, an annual search recognizing outstanding Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) across Iloilo Province.
Eighteen local government unit PESOs vied for the top distinction in the competition organized by the Iloilo Provincial Government through the PESO – Province of Iloilo, highlighting innovative employment facilitation services and strong community impact.
The awarding ceremony was graced by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretary Levinson Alcantara, who underscored the crucial role of PESOs in creating meaningful employment pathways and strengthening local economies.
Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, representing Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., emphasized the deeper significance of the competition.
“This search for outstanding Public Employment and Services Office, is more than just a ceremonial event, it is a tribute to the silent yet powerful work they do every day to connect people with opportunities to uplift rights and to turn hope into reality,” said Banias.
He also noted how the competition aligns with the MoRProGRes development agenda of Governor Defensor which champions a robust, progressive, locally competitive, and resilient Iloilo.
Representing the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Director Atty. Sixto Rodriguez Jr., DOLE Iloilo Field Office Head Joselito Dela Banda lauded the unwavering commitment of PESOs to the ever-evolving labor market.
“In the world where the labor market is constantly evolving, the PESOs continue to serve as bridges of opportunity ensuring every job seeker regardless of background has access to decent and sustainable employment,” added Dela Banda.
Among those who lent support was Hon. Amalia Victoria F. Debuque, Ex-Officio Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Chair of the Committee on Labor and Employment.
“You have made a significant impact and today’s recognition is a small token of appreciation for all the efforts that you invested in ensuring that Iloilo remains a place of opportunity and hope for our people,” said Debuque to PESO managers and staff in attendance.
Other provincial leaders present included Board Member Rolando Distura (4th District), Board Member June Mondejar (2nd District), and officials from national agencies, barangay PESO coordinators, partner academic institutions, and private companies.
