The girls’ basketball team from Calinog, Iloilo paid a courtesy visit to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. today, May 15, to rally support ahead of their participation in the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte.
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. affirmed the Provincial Government’s support for grassroots sports by allocating ₱12.3 million to Iloilo’s Palarong Pambansa delegation.
The fund will be coursed through the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Iloilo to cover the needs of the province’s athletes, coaches, and support staff.
The Palarong Pambansa is slated from May 24 to June 2, 2025 in Ilocos Norte.
Iloilo’s athletes will join the over 900-strong Western Visayas delegation, composed of top athletes, coaches, and support staff who excelled in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet held earlier this year in Antique, where Iloilo emerged as the overall champion.
The Provincial Government’s support ensures that athletes like those from Calinog can compete with dignity and confidence on the national stage.
As the athletes fly to Ilocos this Saturday, they carry with them not only the colors of Iloilo but also the hopes of communities that cheer them on.
