Mental Health Frontliners Empowered Through Community-Based Training In Iloilo

More Ilonggos in need of mental health support will now have better access to timely, compassionate, and community-rooted assistance following the completion of a specialized training on Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) attended by provincial and municipal frontliners.

The PSWDO Province Of Iloilo took part in the three-day Training on Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) held from June 16 to 18, 2025 at Days Hotel, Iloilo City.

Facilitated by the Unilab Foundation and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the training aimed to capacitate diocesan healthcare coordinators, church volunteers, and government frontline workers to become reliable first responders in addressing mental health concerns.

It also aimed to build a strong referral system, increase intervention skills, and promote a holistic approach in responding to mental health challenges at the grassroots level.

One of the key outcomes of the training is the creation of a pool of trained mental health frontliners who will serve as designated focal persons within their communities and parishes. These individuals are now better equipped to provide immediate psychological first aid, facilitate referrals to mental health professionals, and offer both spiritual and emotional support to affected individuals.

Moreover, the activity strengthened partnerships between government offices and church-based institutions, allowing for more resilient and responsive mental health referral mechanisms both at the local and national levels.
