Josiah David G. Quimpo, officer-in-charge of the Conservation Research Department of Haribon Foundation paid a courtesy visit on Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on Monday to invite the governor to share the province of Iloilo’s conservation and sustainable development efforts during the 32nd Philippine Biodiversity Symposium from August 12 to 15, 2025 at Central Philippine University.
The symposium will be hosted by the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines (BCSP). They likewise requested the Iloilo provincial government to sponsor the dinner for the symposium participants.
Mr. Quimpo was accompanied by Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Atty. Cesar Emmanuelle Buyco Jr. and PGENRO Senior Environmental Management Specialist Mitzi Peñaflorida.
Peñaflorida noted that Iloilo is the first province in the Philippines to craft and localize the Iloilo Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. The plan is now being drafted in partnership with the Philippines Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PBCFI), Haribon Foundation, ZSL, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VI. It will then be submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for Approval.
