Ajuy Solar Project Powers Up Iloilo’s Clean Energy Future

Ilonggos are set to benefit from greener, more resilient energy source as the Province of Iloilo took a major leap toward sustainable development, welcoming a new investment in renewable energy with the recent groundbreaking of the 62-megawatt Ajuy 1 Solar Power Project.

The project, spearheaded by SOLARIS, a private renewable energy firm, is expected to boost local power supply, attract green investments, and support long-term energy resilience.

Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, representing Governor Arthur R. Defensor Jr., lauded the development during the ceremony and commended SOLARIS for aligning with the province’s sustainable development agenda.

The event also marked a special occasion with the presence of Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, who chose Ajuy as the site of her first official engagement as DOE Secretary.

Also in attendance were Board Member Rolly Distura, author of Iloilo’s Provincial Ordinance No. 2022-277 or the Iloilo Provincial Ordinance for Renewable Energy (I-PORE), DENR Region VI Director Raul Lorilla, SOLARIS executives, and local officials from Iloilo’s 5th District.

Under I-PORE, Iloilo actively promotes the development, utilization, and commercialization of renewable energy resources to transition into a low-carbon, climate-resilient province.

The Ajuy 1 Solar Power Project is a tangible result of this policy direction, encouraging more clean energy ventures to take root in the province.

As construction progresses, local communities are expected to benefit through job opportunities, enhanced energy access, reduced environmental impact, and bring Iloilo closer to a future powered by innovation, sustainability, and clean energy leadership.
