In a significant move to strengthen local agriculture and rural development, the provincial government of Iloilo, under the leadership of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., officially turned over various agricultural projects totaling to P11,597,700 to the Municipality of Leon on July 17, 2025 at Barangay Agboy Sur covered gym.
The highlight of the ceremony was the formal turnover of 12 units of solar-powered irrigation pumps amounting to P1.464 million, aimed at boosting sustainable and energy-efficient farming in upland communities.
The event was graced by key provincial and municipal officials including Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Ildefonso T. Toledo, Second District Board Member Rolito C. Cajilig, and Vice Mayor Rey V. Capaque, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Governor Defensor delivered a keynote message emphasizing the province’s strong commitment to modernizing agriculture and ensuring food security.
Other dignitaries present are SB Committee on Agriculture Hilario E. Tano and Municipal Agriculturist Ryan M. Caldito who welcomed the guests and attendees.
The ceremony also featured the giving of certificates of award to all project recipients.
The following agricultural assistance packages were officially turned over to Leon:
• Solar Powered Irrigation Pumps (12 units) – P1.464 million
• Cold Storage Facility (1 unit) – P4 million
• Agricultural and Forestry Equipment (1 unit) – P660,000
• Irrigation Pipes for Bucari (1 set) – P300,000
• 358 heads – Piglets for Distribution (358 heads) – P3.348 million
• Rice Threshers (3 units) – P373,000
• Hand Tractors (3 units) – P465,500
• Pump and Engine (3 units) – P447,000
• Cultivators (3 units) – P540,200
The program is part of the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) under the MoRProGRes Iloilo initiative of Governor Defensor, designed to promote resilient and modern agricultural practices in the countryside.
These projects underscore the synergy among the Iloilo provincial government, the Department of Agriculture, and the local government units, and also demonstrate the ongoing commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing productivity, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability in Iloilo.
