The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), through the United Nations Women, has brought a rare and excellent opportunity for the Province of Iloilo to Mainstream Gender in the Iloilo Provincial Renewable Energy Program. The PPDO-Gender and Development, together with the PGENRO-Energy Efficiency and Conservation Desk, has successfully conducted the second part of the series focusing on Harmonizing Gender & Development Guidelines.
Ms. Cecilia Iguiron-Fantastico, Gender and Development Specialist, provided her expertise through the topics: introduction to HGDH, HGDG for identification and design, HGDH for implementation management, and using the HGDG tool.
The workshop also included an HGDG assessment on one of the Iloilo provincial government’s projects.
The EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies program is a collaboration between UNEP and UN Women that aims to accelerate gender-responsive and human rights-based climate actions across Asia and the Pacific.
One of its objectives is to mainstream gender into national and sub-national energy policies, plans, and programs. Building on the energy sector initiatives of the Iloilo Provincial Government, EmPower seeks to support gender mainstreaming within the Iloilo Province Renewable Energy Program through a series of capacity-building workshops and consultations.
