Members of the ISAT-U Space Society (ISS), a student organization composed mostly of engineering students, explored and navigated the TALAMDAN geospatial database of the Province of Iloilo.

According to Herold C. Casido, Faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Adviser of ISS, they introduced the students to the Geographic Information System (GIS), specifically the use of remote sensing and soil suitability studies in the Maasin Watershed, as part of a project for one of their subjects. “This TALAMDAN is a good opportunity for us to partner with the Province of Iloilo, as it provides our students with a system that allows them to interact with spatial data and apply it to real-world situations,” he said.

TALAMDAN, or Technologically Advanced Lens for the Assessment and Management of Development and Actions Needed, is a user-friendly geospatial hub of the Iloilo Provincial Government that enables decision-makers to access and analyze spatial data for disaster risk reduction, land use planning, tourism development, investment promotion, and other priority programs, all in one integrated system.
