The newly appointed Regional Director of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 6, Engr. Reynaldo Sy, paid a courtesy call on Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. today to formally introduce himself and discuss potential collaboration with the Provincial Government.
During the meeting, Director Sy presented DICT’s request for Iloilo’s support in hosting the Philippine Online Freelancing Conference (POFCon) 2025, set for September 23–24, 2025, at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The event, which will gather freelancers, industry leaders, government agencies, and stakeholders in the digital economy, is expected to open new opportunities, particularly those in the countryside, by promoting freelancing as a viable source of livelihood.
It will also feature sessions on emerging technologies, an exhibition of government services, and a job fair.
In his formal letter handed to the Governor, Sy emphasized that the DICT’s partnership with the Province will “highlight Iloilo’s strong commitment to digital transformation and inclusive growth” and further position the province as a hub for innovation, investment, and digital talent.
Governor Defensor welcomed the initiative, noting the potential of the freelancing sector to provide Ilonggos with flexible and sustainable career options.
