Iloilo Tackles Early Detection, Management Of Type 1 Diabetes

The Province of Iloilo Diabetes Mellitus Technical Working Group, led by the Provincial Health Office, convened for its second meeting to discuss strategies and interventions in the early detection and management of Type 1 Diabetes among children, teens, and young adults.

Type 1 diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes which appears as early as childhood.

The meeting, held today at Bread Basket, particularly tackled comprehensive patient education for early intervention as well as promotion of health literacy at a young age.

“Our goal is to strengthen early detection through accessible screening and to promote changes for the prevention of Type 1 diabetes,” said PHO Development Management Officer III Maria Consolacion Ebrada.

The province also partnered with the Humanity & Inclusion, an international non-government organization, in developing tools and standard operating procedure to promote self-education among those aged 0-25 years old.

HI is an aid organization that works for the vulnerable sectors and helps address poverty and inclusion, conflict, and disaster. They will be providing insulin, glucose testing kits, and other medical supplies to the beneficiaries.

A total of 1,000 beneficiaries from Iloilo will be enrolled in the program.

This initiative of the Iloilo provincial government aims to ensure the health of the Ilonggos by empowering them with the right knowledge in disease prevention and management.
