MOA/MOU Signing For Environmental Projects

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with two educational institutions to support projects under Tanum Iloilo for MoRProGRes.

The first partnership is with West Visayas State University – College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF) for the enhancement and management of the arboretum and botanical/butterfly garden within the Maasin Watershed Forest Reserve in Maasin, Iloilo.

The second is with Central Philippine University (CPU) for the establishment of a Center for Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Conservation at Sitio Panus-on, Brgy. Nabitasan, Leganes; Brgy. Dangulaan, Anilao; and Brgy. Culasi, Ajuy.

WVSU-CAF Administrator Dr. Joel Araquil Sr. signed on behalf of the university, while CPU President Dr. Ernest Howard Dagohoy signed for CPU.

Governor Defensor emphasized his call for support from various sectors to realize the province’s vision of increasing forest cover and ultimately achieving “Forest Province” status for Iloilo by 2044.

Both Dr. Araquil and Dr. Dagohoy pledged their full support for Tanum Iloilo for MoRProGRes.

Also present to witness the MOA/MOU signing were Dr. Jose Ariel Tutor, Director of Research, Innovation, and Extension at WVSU-CAF; Sarex Dipol Jr., Director of the Community Engagement and Service Learning Center at CPU; Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) Senior Environment Specialist Mitzi Peñaflorida; and PGENRO Head Atty. Cesar Emmanuel Buyco.
