The Iloilo Provincial Government is enhancing waste segregation practices at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol with the installation of ten (10) new customized segregated waste bins, making proper waste disposal more convenient for employees and transacting clients.
Two bins will be placed on every floor from the 1st to 5th level strategically located on both ends near the comfort rooms to ensure easy access for building users.
The bins were formally turned over today through a partnership between the Iloilo Provincial Government through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the Coca-Cola Foundation.
UNDP Project Manager Jella Roxas led the turnover ceremony attended by members of the provincial circular economy core group.
Each unit, made from recycled materials, features four compartments for liquid waste, biodegradable, recyclable, and non-biodegradable materials. The design aims to promote responsible disposal and support a cleaner, more organized environment for everyone visiting or working at the Capitol.
The same customized bins were also provided to the Municipality of Dumangas, extending circular economy initiatives beyond the Capitol.
The PH Plastics Circularity Project is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in the Philippines (UNDP Philippines) with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation. It is part of a multi-country initiative that aims to tackle the growing challenge of plastic waste pollution and support the transition to a circular economy across nine countries in Asia.
By focusing on key interventions at the local level—strengthening sustainable plastic waste management and circular economy policies and systems, empowering the informal waste sector, promoting inclusive business models, and driving behavior change to reduce plastic waste— the project reduces plastic leakage into the environment while improving livelihoods and advancing circular economy practices in the Philippines.
