The Salakayan Festival treated spectators to a dramatic retelling of the successful repelling of Moro raiders by the residents of Miagao.
While today’s celebrations are artistic, the original “Salakayan,” meaning “to attack”, was a desperate and bloody battle for survival.
In a time when such raids could wipe out 50% of a town’s population through capture and conflict, this victory secured the future of Miagao and remains a symbol of ancestral resilience.
