The Iloilo Provincial Government, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), turned over today cash incentives to winners of the 2025 Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods.
The awards are anchored on Provincial Ordinance No. 2024-319 which institutionalized provision of cash incentives and formal recognition to exemplary village watchmen across the province.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said the provincial government allocates P80 million annually for incentives to barangay volunteer workers, including barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, day care workers, barangay service point officers, and barangay tanods.
He also challenged tanods to remain united in what he described as a “common fight” against illegal drugs, stressing an “All of Province” approach to achieve drug-cleared barangays by the second and third quarters of the year.
“The key is intelligence gathering. We rely on you to feed us information,” he added, underscoring the crucial role of tanods in community-based monitoring and crime prevention.
2nd District Board Member June Mondejar, Ordinance author, said the incentives aim to inspire barangay tanods to sustain their voluntary service in maintaining peace and order.
For awardee Nilo Sulleza, chief tanod of Barangay Camambugan in Sta. Barbara, the recognition serves as both encouragement and support.
“Maayo ini kay para makabulig sa mga tanod kag maka-perform sang maayo,” Sulleza said.
The cash incentives range from P3,000 for individual awardees up to P35,000 for outstanding barangays.
