Defensor Leads Distribution Of Career Guidance Modules To 80 Iloilo Schools

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. led the turnover of Career Guidance Instructional Module (CGIM) sets today to 80 public secondary schools across Iloilo Province, strengthening the provincial government’s push to equip learners with informed education and career pathways.

The turnover ceremony, held at the Pavia National High School Twin Covered Gym, coincided with the culmination of the school’s Career Guidance Advocacy activity titled “Pagbinag-binag: Thinking Through Career Options.”

The CGIM is a flagship education support initiative under the Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BESProbins) Program of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

Developed in partnership with guidance counselors and education specialists from the Department of Education (DepEd) Iloilo and the University of the Philippines, the module localizes Republic Act No. 11206, or the Career Guidance and Counseling Act, authored by then Congressman Arthur Defensor Jr.

Governor Defensor emphasized that the program is designed to help senior high school students make career choices aligned not only with employment opportunities but also with their individual strengths and the workforce needs of the province and the country.

“Kung wala nagasanto ang produkto sang eskwelahan sa kinahanglan sang ekonomiya kag gobyerno, wala ubra ang aton mga graduates,” said Defensor.

“We want a career guidance and counselling program that will bridge the gap and produce the human resource, and give intelligent and effective intervention as you decide what to do with your lives and what career to seek,” Defensor added.

Each CGIM set contains structured lesson guides, learner activities, assessment tools, and facilitation notes to enable teachers and guidance advocates to deliver career guidance sessions in a systematic and sustained manner for grades 7 to 12. The modules cover career self-assessment, labor market information, education pathways, and decision-making skills.

The distribution of CGIM sets to 80 “mother schools” is expected to benefit thousands of senior high school learners, as participating schools replicate the sessions across their respective districts.
