The Iloilo Provincial Government is now on its second year of implementing the strategies set to achieve its vision anchored to its recovery agenda, coined the “Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, and Resilient (MoRPRoGRes) Province of Iloilo.”
The said agenda was introduced by Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. during his inauguration, emphasized the importance of positioning Iloilo as an ideal investment destination by building its fundamentals for investing in the four (4) basic sectors that are substantial for the development of the province, power and energy, water, telecommunications, and road networks.
A series of consultation with the Economic Cluster Team of the Province, together with the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (LEDIP) Center and the Provincial Planning Development Office serving as the lead conveners were conducted together with the public utilities prior to the launching of MoRProGRes ILOILO to better position the Province for investment opportunities.
Part of the major activities coordinated was the conduct of roundtable discussions (RTD) held last August 9-11, 2022, with all the major utility companies with service areas in the Province of Iloilo together with other national government agencies and the Economic Cluster Team of the Iloilo Provincial Government. These utilities presented their current operations and discussed and aligned its major economic plans for the next 3-5 years with those of the province.
The results of these RTDs were translated into a spatial map as presentation of the fundamentals in investing in Iloilo that will serve as an investment guide not just for potential investors locating in the province and also to be used in creating and harmonizing plans and programs necessary for the achievement of its developmental thrusts through maximizing agricultural production, creating a value chain for agricultural products, and developing growth areas that shall serve as investment centers for the information and communication technology and light industries. This would equate to generating employment and business opportunities for agriculture, tourism, service and manufacturing sectors to create a strong middle class in the province.
This is where MoRProGRes Iloilo begins, by laying down the foundation where we will build pillars for a vibrant economy of the Province of Iloilo.
